The Nullpoint (Prototype)

Role: Design Director

The Nullpoint is a prototype for an realtime tactics roguelike set in a massive, procedurally generated alien wreckage.

Players control 1 - 5 survivors of an expedition into the Nullpoint using realtime cover mechanics, managing ammunition and status effects while trying to guide the survivors to safety. Because survivor death is permanent, the player will lead a gradually shifting cast, constantly tailoring their team as new survivors are discovered and veterans fall to the horrors of the Nullpoint.

Originally, the Nullpoint was a side project by several Schell Games employees lead by Patrick Jalbert. Together they developed an early proof of concept and pitched it to Schell Games as an IP. The company agreed to fund the game if it could make a Kickstarter funded goal of 125,000. Although the Kickstarter ultimately did not succeed, a final prototype was built and released publicly as a self-contained experience, and can still be played on GameJolt.
